A gap in local services was identified, DEAP Ltd opened a new centre in Lochgelly, Fife with a view to supporting local unemployed and economically inactive residents within the surrounding areas. The aim was to support people who were marginalised, resident within areas identified as having high levels of multiple deprivation. The centre opened in November 2014 delivering a 6-month pilot recruitment and outreach project, funded by DWP flexible support fund. The aim was to identify and support 120 long term unemployed people gain skills to sustain employment.
Within the first 3 months over 128 people had registered and by the end of the 6-month pilot in April 2015, 71 individuals had progressed into a job, further education or training. (55.4%).
The Project was making a positive impact within the communities, and demand for the services grew. DEAP developed outreach services in community centre/libraries and jobcentres, improving accessibility to those most in need, breaking down real and perceived barriers to positive engagement.
18 months since the inception of services in Fife, DEAP has engaged with 302 unemployed individuals. 39 gaining accredited qualifications, 181 into employment, further education or training. DEAP also trained 3 local young people through Community Jobs Scotland all of which gained employment with DEAP. We have increased the services we offer and now run 3 employability initiatives : (Recruitment and Outreach, Employability Fund, and Community Jobs Scotland).
