Next Steps is a Lottery-funded project for young people aged 15 to 25. It aims to build confidence and life skills, and help smooth the journey from being looked after to becoming independent.
There is a varied programme each month following Getting it Right for every Child Policy. We aim to provide support, training and skills to young people which will better prepare them for the future. The skills and training we provide consists of Youth Achievement Awards and XL Awards, practical based skills to increase self confidence and raise self esteem and to target areas of interest in the young people which improves independent living and leading to better prospects.
At Next Steps Youth Workers are experienced and motivated supporting young people to address any issues which may arise including signposting to many relevant organisations in the local area.
Each young person works with Youth Workers to set personal goals which they are then supported to achieve. Youth Workers and young people plan activities based on the needs of the young people from creative projects, music, sports and personal development. Young people attend group sessions to participate in the activities they are interested in, building on this over time to achieve qualifications, volunteer experience and employment.
This flexibility allows everyone to develop at their own pace and gain what they want to from the project. Each individual will be fully supported by Youth Workers and encouraged to gain transferable skills to allow them to develop and achieve their goals .
The Next Steps Youth Forum provides a platform for young people to voice the issues that matter to them and to exchange ideas. This is feed back to staff and acted upon.
