Guiding Gemma to New Opportunities
Returning to work after having taken a career break to look after her young son, Gemma was concerned about potential health issues limiting her career choices. She had heard about the support offered by DEAP and asked to be referred to the Pathway Project by her work coach.
Staff worked with Gemma to explore her job options as well as to update her CV with her previous work and voluntary experience. They supported her to access sector specific training, as well as provided her with a tablet for her to use. With DEAP’s support, Gemma was able to decide a role in social support would be the best option, and eliminate any potential manual handling, something which would impact her health.
Gemma applied for a position with a local care agency and was successful. She says that returning to work after a career break was intimidating, but after updating her CV, she realised she had much more to offer. Since securing her role, Gemma feels her confidence has increased, and she’s able to better provide for her family financially.
