Two Local Businesses join forces to offer training and qualifications to Taxi Drivers in the City

DEAP Limited has partnered with 203020 electric and education start –up Y2 education to deliver accredited training and assessment for the SQA- Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi and Private Hire Driver at QCF level 2. This initiative has been developed to provide opportunity for training and up skilling of current and new taxi drivers to meet the requirements of planned new legislation being introduced in 2017 by Dundee City Council. As from next year all drivers in the city must have this qualification to hold a taxi licence.

Taxi Drivers perform a valuable role within the City and achievement of this award will provide them with recognition of their knowledge and skills to provide high quality service in areas of Health and Safety, Road Safety, Vehicle Maintenance, Support for passengers who require assistance, Safeguarding Vulnerable Passengers and Professional customer service. The award embeds knowledge on all current legislation and best practice within the industry.

Mary Hamilton, Managing Director of DEAP Limited said:  We are delighted that through this partnership approach, we can support the taxi drivers to gain the qualification needed to sustain their employment within the taxi and private hire industry.  It will enhance their skills and knowledge to provide a first class service to the people of Dundee and to the large number of visitors to the City.

David and Lynne Young of 20-30-20 said: We are very excited to have an opportunity to connect with the drivers who are at the front line of this ever evolving somewhat undervalued industry. Our partnership with DEAP Limited Dundee has allowed us to combine our own experience in the Taxi & Private Hire Industry with their valuable expertise in Education& Training to develop a course that is “driver” friendly, relevant to Dundee Local Council legislation and interactive to ensure a positive learning experience. Taxi drivers are such an important life line to so many people. In the course of a normal day they can be called upon for all sorts of responsibilities, from assisting vulnerable people to carrying sensitive packages i.e. Bloods etc.  They are often the first point of contact for new visitors to our City, and we want to make sure they have all the necessary skills to allow them to do their job to the best of their ability.

The first course will be starting in Early May, offering flexible training and assessment to meet the needs of the drivers.  If eligible ILA funding is available for this course.
