Our Dundee office is located in Maryfield, at Unit 12 East, Manhattan Works, Dundonald Street.
At DEAP young people are encouraged to maintain healthy lifestyle and have been supported by Youth Workers to attend swimming sessions, gym inductions and Boxing sessions and have competed in weekly football tournament at Soccer World, alongside Balerno, Helm and many other local organisations.
Next Steps Project – Dundee has regular creative workshops to motivate and support young people to gain transferable skills and to motivate. Many of the young people we support do not necessarily work well in a formal educational environment and many have lots of skills waiting to be discovered. We use Art, Music, Sport and team work as tool alongside more formal learning to motivate and encourage and develop the young people attending the project. This group have worked with Community Development workers to write music, play instruments and create a disc.
We will continue with a healthy cooking session in 2017 alongside Craigowl, where young people will achieve REHIS qualifications leading to improved employment prospects as well as health and wellbeing.
We have regular projects in collaboration with local agencies. “Alternatives- Supporting Young Women make Positive Choices” “One World Project” Global Justice & Equality “On the Whole – Voice for Care Experienced Young People. Street Soccer -Positives Change through Sport.
Girls group- meets every Tuesday 11am – 1pm – Group works with young girls 15- 25 years Building confidence and self-esteem and helps them to gain transferable skills.
Skills training for young people having taster sessions , support and instruction to decide on career choices . Young people regularly visit local workplaces and have taster sessions to gain an insight to the world of work.
New groups in 2017 will include One World Charity based organisation raising awareness of global issues and engaging young people through art and media, building confidence towards employment and further training and education. we will also be running programs alongside On the Whole, Street Soccer and Craigowl.
DEAP are also working with Dundee City Council Connect Group and Taught by Muhammad helping young people to improve their independent living skills, budgeting, saving and managing a household.
Staff at DEAP continue to work alongside DWP, many local employers and social enterprises to support young people into volunteering and employment, with many new initiatives planned for 2017.
